Willa S. Jones PapersWilla Saunders Jones was an Arkansas-born playwright, known for writing, producing, and directing the Chicago Passion Play, produced annually from 1926 to 1981. Recognized as a talented vocalist, musician, and orator, Jones was well suited to produce and direct the play. From it’s humble beginnings, performing for small audiences in South Side community churches, the play grew into an annual event recognized by the Mayor of Chicago, and staged at larger venues such as the Civic Opera House.
